SERMON VIDEO:
“There is a basic definition of subversion that runs like this – it is seeking or intending to subvert an established system or institution. When Paul was writing, there was a system, a social institution that had a whole range of assumptions that the biblical view endeavors to revolutionize. Today, Christian marriage is often misunderstood. But it might surprise you that there is as much of that misunderstanding coming from within the church. I only have to mention the word “submission” or “subjection” and a range of things about marriage get challenged, defended, modified, opposed and even rejected.
Voddie Baucham is right when he says in his book, ‘Family Shepherds,’ that anything got to do with family life is the most important theological issue facing the church today. And here’s the rub. If we do not get our understanding of mail and female, gender and sex, marriage and relationship, from the Scriptures, we will be supremely influenced by culture, convention and tradition.
So, we are not talking about marriage as such, but the revolution that is biblical marriage. But the subject is so vast, it is difficulty to know where to begin. The best I can do is to hit some of the high points. So here is our text this morning…”
